It's great when I'm feeling sick, because it's less stressful for me to know there's someone here to call a ride and handle paperwork at the ER if I end up having to go, and a notch less stress means I'm less likely to get to that point. But in general, I'm a hermitty introvert and need a lot of alone time. If your mental and emotional health impacted your writing, then the reverse can also be true.<br /><br />Additionally, what you noticed also shows that our emotional health impacts far deeper than we realize sometimes.<br /><br />My family tends to drive themselves hard with work when we grieve. And at times we scream at ourselves if we have moments of being lost within ourselves and not focused/working. I'm one of these, actually, in both cases. I think understand a little more now, given what you found, that I/we should be a bit more gentle with ourselves when something has happened.<br />Our creativity and all our tasks related to it, are ships on the sea of our hearts. When the storms come, the sailing is different.<br /><br />I'm really sorry for your losses - and I hope that joy finds you more frequently. And actually, I don't see it happening at all, because they'd be all one company and they have A Responsibility To Their Shareholders which would quickly override any vague promises made to a judge.<br /><br />The only benefit I can see from letting the merger go through is that tightening the screws on the big-dog tradpubbed writers just might blast a few of them out of their rut and persuade them to try indie.
