    The whole

    fandom = identity => defensiveness => anger/hate

    thing makes a lot of sense, unfortunately. Not sure how to derail that process, so long as folks identify so strongly with their fandoms. [ponder] I mean, trying to get people to just behave with some damn civility is a good start, but it's treating the symptom rather than the disease.

      It's a little sad that people take what's supposed to be entertainment so literally.

      Somebody who doesn't like Star Trek isn't going to destroy my sense of self, but I've met some people who take their own ST fandom way too far. It's just a TV show.
